At West Oak, we move out of gratitude for people, coffee, and culture.
It all started with two firefighters living in Denton, Texas in 2014. Matt had been focused on humanitarian efforts in Haiti, and Clay was starting up in the local coffee scene with his venture, Bookish Coffee. Seeking a way to make his efforts in Haiti sustainable, Matt began to look to coffee as his vehicle. Having a passion for their city and a desire to bring aid to those in need, Matt and Clay began developing plans for a coffee shop. Their aim was to create a place that was warm and inviting, a place that gave Dentonites somewhere to commune with one another and enjoy quality coffee. It was the first chapter of what would later be known as Voltage Coffee Project, an organization that now bridges the gap between coffee lovers locally and globally.
West Oak Coffee Bar is named for the street on which it was built. If you’ve ever visited our little spot on the square, then you know that it’s unmistakably Denton – a fun and quirky part of Texas where the fit-ins and the misfits are all welcome. One look at our menu and you’ll see there’s something for everyone (including chocolate milk on tap). All of our fixtures, tables, and chairs are built from reclaimed materials and we cover our walls with a continual rotation of art from local makers. West Oak is where old world meets the new. It’s a place of tradition and ritual that ever seeks to innovate how coffee is experienced. But above all the wonderful ambiance and offerings is our heart for the people.
Every time you enter our doors, expect to be greeted with a smiling face and the potential for new friendship. Our baristas will take you by the hand, leading you through our many offerings to find your next “usual” or a seasonal special to help mix things up. We serve our very own West Oak Coffee sourced from some of the greatest coffee producers around the world and roasted in-house by our talented craft-roasting team.
